CAHEP Goals

ALL ARTS & HERITAGE FOR OUR COMMUNITY & SCHOOLS

The Community Arts & Heritage Education Project (CAHEP) will enhance accessibility to arts & heritage programming and will make the work of artists, performers and the achievements of cultural and historical organizations more visible in Thunder Bay schools, and in the community in general. This exposure will develop interest and involvement in the arts and in our cultural heritage.

Apart from educating children and youth in the arts, the activities planned by CAHEP will help to increase the number of youthful participants in arts and heritage activities and develop audiences, thus sustaining community support for the arts and heritage culture for the long term.

Artists, heritage programmers, performers and arts and heritage organizations will benefit as their profiles will be increased through exposure in the Thunder Bay Arts and Heritage Directory for Educators and the CAHEP website. Their availability as community based arts professionals will be promoted directly to principals and teachers at individual schools, as well as to parents, organizations and the community.

The benefits of arts and heritage based learning are endless. When we nurture our children, students, and community in arts and heritage, we are creating future citizens who will support both. Arts and heritage can build and help celebrate our sense of community.

CAHEP will:

  • Enhance accessibility to arts and heritage programming by exposing students to workshops, performances and residencies which have artistic quality and educational merit
  • Facilitate communication between arts and heritage organizations, individual artists, educators and the community by developing mutual awareness, respect and appreciation
  • Promote local artists and arts and heritage organizations in Thunder Bay
  • Provide opportunities for students to perform and showcase their work in the arts
