About Artists in the 5th
Artists in the 5th was launched by CAHEP in November of 2003.
CAHEP runs this program every year from September until March in all 3 school boards in Thunder Bay. Interested artist and heritage programmers work
with Grade 4, 5 and 6 teachers who express an interest in having an artist or a group of artist/heritage programmers in their classroom. Artists work with the learners encouraging them to be leaders in their own creative process. Their work in the arts (written word, play creation, dance, drama, music, new media arts and visual art) stems from a different theme each year. More than 3500 students across the city have participated in this program over the last eight years!
All the dance, drama, music, stories and visual art done through Artists in the 5th is showcased at the CAHEP Arts Fiesta. Visual art projects will also be displayed in various locations throughout Thunder Bay in the month following the Arts Fiesta.
CAHEP would like to thank the Ontario Arts Council, City of Thunder Bay and Department of Canadian Heritage for their generous funding toward this initiative.
Thunder Bay Transit offer special bus passes to the students and teachers who take part in an Artists in the 5th project. Their generous donation is greatly appreciated and allows the students to get to the Arts Fiesta for free or to be able to see their work on display in the community.
