Uth Ink

Uth Ink Thunder Bay

Uth Ink gives youth the opportunity to journey through an artistic process with a professional playwright and an artist from their own community.

This “journey” is hosted by an arts organization within each community, which is administratively supported by Playwrights Guild of Canada and brought to the street by [murmur].

Uth Ink was first implemented in August 2007 in Etobicoke, Thunder Bay, Orillia, Ottawa and Sudbury.

In 2007/2008 in Thunder Bay, CAHEP facilitated the Uth Ink programming with 14 local youth and local playwright Eleanor Albanese. The youth worked with Eleanor to create scripted stories about specific  locations around Thunder Bay, which were then recorded.  The stories can be found by visiting the locations (found on the map created by local artist, Alana Forslund), where signs have been installed.  At each of the places marked with a red dot on the map, you'll find a green Uth Ink sign. Use your mobile phone to call the number on the sign and when prompted, enter the four-digit code to listen to the Uth Ink play.

For 2008/2009, Uth Ink is growing to ten communities across the country.  In addition, these plays will be published into an anthology entitled: Uth Ink: Word from the Street, which is available as of summer 2008.

If you are an aspiring playwright and would like to take part in next year’s Uth Ink program or would just like to know more about Uth Ink, please visit the Uth Ink website or email.
