Community Arts Weekend

Community Arts Weekend

CAHEP worked with over 80 children, youth and adults over a two day period to create a community mural. Over 60 photographs were brought in by participants from the Ogden Simpson area.  These photographs were put onto fabric and incorporated into the mural that was designed by Moses Amik Beaver and painted by everyone who came to make art.  The community mural was a strong piece that brought the community together with photographs through the generations, storytelling and through working together to create something that everyone could participate in and be proud of.

The community also made an Eagle Fire Sculpture with Moses Amik Beaver. They built the Fire Sculpture out of cardboard and covered it in brightly colored tissue paper. Everyone involved was invited to write a letter to a loved one that they had lost.  All those who wrote letters put them in the back of the Fire Sculpture. This was done so that when the Fire Sculpture was lit, the good wishes and messages to the loved ones would be able to reach them.

Over 200 people attended the Celebration Evening where the play was – How Bear-Heart Woman Brought Truth Back to the People performed, the mural was unveiled and the Fire Sculpture was lit. The rumbling of the thunder just at the moment when the Eagle Fire Sculpture was at the height of burning was a wonderful and complimentary natural symphony! The Thunderbird was with us all………
