The primary goal of Waabi-ma’iingan Traditional Teaching Lodge (Grey Wolf) is to provide an environment for individuals from all cultures and walks of life to gather; share Anishnaabe culture; traditional teachings and stories from Elders; and, the Spiritual laws (seven sacred teachings). Focused on building peace, unity, and understanding Grey Wolf is encouraging and providing opportunities to experience and learn about our Anishnaabe culture. Grey Wolf is not just a vision, but a reality which is helping to rebuild cultural and Spiritual connections. Our organization is a non-patrician initiative that will continue to maintain its individuality by relying on the Elders that sit on the Board of Directors providing the crucial guidance and direction needed governed by the clan system.
The Lodge supports a variety of other activities besides the Elders and Youth Gathering (just celebrated our second in September): working with incarcerated youth (in both an open detention setting as well as a secure setting); high school students; two neighbourhood programs; we host a Sharing Circle every second Thursday; we work with two sweat lodges in our area; we host two ceremonies each year to honour the changing of the seasons (spring and fall in Thunder Bay); we host an Elders and Youth Gathering before the Fall Ceremony; we bring in Traditional teachers and healers for individuals to access; we participate with local Intenders Groups; we support the Thunder Bay National Aboriginal Day Committee; and we work with local professionals to promote healing and wellbeing.
