Magnus Theatre engages in four core areas of activity: The Mainstage, Theatre in Education, Adult Tour and New Play Development.

Main Stage
The season runs from September to April and offers 6 productions reflecting a strong commitment to Canadian works while presenting a variety of theatre experiences, including the classics and contemporary plays.  School groups attending matinee performances receive discounted tickets, a study guide, a visit to the school before the students see the play, and "talk back" session with the cast after the play, (all offered upon request).

Theatre in Education
Theatre for Young Audiences School Touring
The annual Theatre for Young Audiences School Tour presents two touring plays - one for primary/junior  and on for intermediate/secondary students - to schools in Thunder Bay and Northern Ontario.  The plays are selected from the Canadian repertoire, and deal with issues concerning young people in an entertaining and thought-provoking manner.  Issues in the past have included bullying, racism, literacy, drug and alcohol abuse, single-parent families and people with special needs.  The tour has traveled as far north as Moosonee and Moose Factory, as far east as Elliot Lake and as far west as the Manitoba border.

Theatre School
Magnus Theatre School classes are offered to youth aged 6 to 18 as well as adults.  Courses are offered during winter and fall sessions, with additional drama camps during March break and summer holidays.  Classes focus on developing self-expression, creativity and confidence through improvisation, story telling, movement and music.  Young people in more advanced classes are introduced to basic acting techniques and skills exploring voice, character, scene work, and play building.
Workshops
Magnus offers workshops for all ages to schools, clubs, businesses and other organizations. Workshops may take place at Magnus Theatre or off-site.  Topics may include issue-exploring drama, story-telling, character creation, lectures/demonstrations by theatre artists from current Magnus productions, or may be custom designed for the needs of the group.
Adult Tour
The Adult Tour enables Magnus to share its work with audiences across Northern Ontario, presenting various forms of professional theatre, drawing from the Canadian, classical and contemporary repertoires.
New Play Development
This area of programming, which includes a play writing competition for young people, fosters the development and production of new Canadian works and provides opportunities for instruction in theatre arts.
