The annual Sleeping Giant Writers Festival promotes arts and culture in Thunder Bay by its focus on writing craft and literacy. This conference of award-winning Canadian authors, local writers and readers creates a positive economic impact on the City of Thunder Bay. The festival’s invitation to readings, workshops and consultations in Thunder Bay promotes tourism in the region.

Thunder Bay Writers Guild provides a forum for aspiring writers to share their work with their peers and to give and receive encouragement and constructive criticism. It has published two collections of members’ stories: Forty Below in the Shade (2001) and Fire Flies (2002).
