Artists in the 5th - 2007

Night Creatures at Westmount School took the way bodies can move to a whole new level...
Corpus Christi School made amazing puppets - "Mentors: Stewards of the Earth". These delightful characters reminded us why it is important to look after our planet.
St. John School wrote and performed their own commercials for products that don't exist...Right on dudes!!
Westmount School also created a dance movement piece called "Come Take A Walk with Me". They explored what it would be like to walk in someone else's shoes....
Algonquin School worked with artist Elliot Doxtater to create "Carbage" - they worked with all kinds of garbage to make a huge recycled car out of garbage! Nice Moustache and goatee guys!
What will it be?? Algonquin School had plenty of materials to choose from...All the students raided their recycling bins from home...
Ms Biesenthal's class at St. Bernard School created papier mache masks that celebrated creations uniqueness - there were many creatures, animals and even a few aliens! Awesome masks!
Ms McCraken-Mann's grade 5 class worked with artist, Biljana Baker, to create their incredible watercolours of all colours...wow! Excellent work grade 5's!!
Ms. Kyryluk's grade 5 class at St. Bernard school explored many cultures in their puppet project called "Puppets of Every Kind". What personality each and every puppet had!!
Holy Cross School created a physical theatre piece called "Wondrous Wild Weather". We were treated to fabulous movement and a whole lot of learners working together to create a piece of magic!
Ms. Pocion's class at St. Bernard School studied the Canadian landscape from sea to shining sea and created beautiful canvas landscapes with acrylics - beautiful paintings grade 5's!
Ms. Barry's class at Algonquin School worked with artist Jelena Psenicnik to create a stunning movement piece called "Under One Sun". This moving piece was beautiful in every way and made quite an impact on all the learners who saw it at the Arts Fiesta.
The grade 5 students in Ms. O'Brien's class enjoyed making music on the drums and percussion instruments with musician Sean Jesseau.
Ecole Franco-Superieur worked with artist Holly Haggarty to write poetry that could move to the beat with artist Claudia Otto. What a wonderful combination.
St. Ann School worked with writer Holly Haggarty to write their own play - The Dream Snatchers. they performed this work at the Arts Fiesta - great story - great masks and great work grade 5's Holly and Ms. Turco!
St Margaret School got "Connected" with each other in their physical dance movement piece complete with percussion soundscape!!

Crestview School worked with artist Claudia Otto and educator Aaron Laldin to create a moving and dynamic piece that had every animal and all people working together!

St Pius X School worked with Symphony musician Erin Brophey to create instruments, a song and a soundscape called Voices of the Phoenix - Bravo!!
CAHEP Arts Fiesta 2007 - 504 grade 4,5 and 6 learners were involved in the Artists in the 5th programming this year!!!  There were over 750 people in attendance at the Arts Fiesta! Let's Celebrate the Arts!

Artist Kathleen Baleja and educator Per Juan and all the grade 5 students at St Margaret School moved and danced their was through all the "Connections" they could for the Arts Fiesta! Well done!
Crestview School - "Creation - An Iroquois Myth" - Wow!
The Haiku Poems were beautiful....The french language was lyrical...and the movement was stunning! Merci Beacoup Ecole Franco-Superieur!!
The Dream Snatchers was so imaginative thanks to artist Holly Haggarty, Educator Lina Turco and all the fabulous grade 5 students at St. Ann School.
The learners owned their beaitful strong song - Voices of the Phoenix - from St. Pius X School - thanks!
And who will you be in Twenty Years? And what will you create in Twenty Years? St John School with drama artist Janis Swanson and educator Derek Bresolin looked into a kind of future.....Well done grade 5's! We LOVED the Staal Brothers!!

The grade 5 students, artist Jelena Psenicnik and Educator Jennifer Barry from Algonquin School created "Under One Sun". They were all shining up on that stage! Thankyou for your awesome and colourful work!!

Westmount School performed a movement piece that had everyone thinking about walking in someone else's shoes.....A lovely piece of work with artist Kathleen Baleja, educator Cathy Wiznuk and the grade 5 students.
Holy Cross School worked with drama artist Jelena Psenicnik to create a fun and crazy piece called "Wild Wondrous Weather" with over 60 grade 5 students! Mr. Bragnalo and Mrs. Cho-Chu were right in there being tossed by tornadoes and lit by lightening! Oo
Thunder Bay Art Gallery was one of the Arts Fiesta art display locations - St Bernard School masks with artist Natalie Hotson and educator Ms. Biesenthal- "Celebrating Creations Uniqueness" were on display, as well as "Horizons" with artist Alana Forslund
