Art Club & Days of Art

Delivering free and low-cost arts programming to students across the City of Thunder Bay, Art Club is multidisciplinary, professionally and locally led, and culturally enriching. CAHEP's Art Club program has two components. The first - the regular Art Club Program - delivers multidisciplinary art projects to three designated schools on a bi-monthly basis. The second part of the Art Club program Days of Art - focusses on providing arts, cultural, and heritage educational experiences to as many students as possible in the City of Thunder Bay.

CAHEP allows our school to access art supplies, delivers instruction, and provides more opportunity for hands-on one-to-one support in classrooms. This one-to-one support makes the arts more accessible to children and helps them to build connections with other people in our community, ask questions, and lean into new ways of thinking and doing things.

Grade ¾ Teacher

Mary-Jean Cormier takes us to Algonquin Avenue Public School where students were getting creative with clay yesterday. It's part of a community arts program that's been running for the past two years -- for a large part virtually. But it's now back in-person.

Speak-Up

CAHEP’s Speak Up Program is funded by the Canadian Women’s Foundation. It utilizes art education to develop leadership skills for girl and girl-identified Grade 7-8 students at four different schools. Speak Up employs feminist-focussed educational practices and theories, which include grappling with uncertainty, cultivating flexibility, celebrating multiplicity and diversity, and encouraging the practices of self-reflection, especially in regards to gender-bias.

Community Arts

community arts

Our Community Arts Program, which consists of several different streams, provides free, multidisciplinary arts programming to children, youth, adults, Elders, and seniors in partnership with neighbourhood organizations, community groups, and cultural associations in mostly under-resourced areas of Thunder Bay. All of the streams within our Community Arts Program help build self-confidence, increase social inclusion, and foster community building through co-creation and teamwork in spaces where access to arts programming is limited. Just as important, our Community Arts Program develops creativity and creative thinking skills, which are internationally recognized as important 21st-century competencies.
